How Long Does it Take to Replace a Roof?

After a long day of work, the last thing you want to worry about is your roof. Since it keeps you safe from bad weather, among other things, you need a sturdy roof. Unfortunately, a lot of homeowners need a roof replacement after too much damage.

There are all kinds of things that can happen to your roof, from hail impacts to shingles being blown off. Either way, you’ll want to know how long your roof replacement might take. That answer is a little more complicated than you might think, though.

Several things go into the estimated time, like your insurance or the materials you choose. By hiring professionals for your roof replacement, you’ll start out on the best foot. We’ve got the experience to give you a new roof quickly and efficiently.

Still, with all of our knowledge, your roof could take as little as 1 or 2 days all the way to a week or more. To get started with your free inspection, call Albert Adamkoski Roofing. We’ll check everything and give you a fair estimate, but we still want you to be prepared!

You Have Options

When you need a roof replacement, one of the biggest choices you’ll make is the materials. With different pros and cons, some materials take longer than others to install. Of course, they can also help boost your home’s value and protection.

Materials you might see are metal, brick, and asphalt shingles. The latter is the most frequent choice among customers. That’s because asphalt shingles are inexpensive, easy to find, and we can install them fast. More importantly, they’re lightweight on your roof with good protection.

Other materials can take longer to install, though their pros usually involve longevity. We can typically do an asphalt shingle roof in 1 to 2 days, but a concrete roof can take longer than a week. Materials are a choice, but how your home is built can play a big role, too.

How is Your Home Designed?

Larger homes tend to take longer, thanks to more square footage. Bigger roofs mean more materials are needed. “Roofing squares” is a business phrase that means 100 square feet. It can also determine how long your roof replacement will take.

When it comes to your home’s construction, we’ve developed a process over the years. That’s how we can have a 1.200 square-foot roof changed in 1 or 2 days. Larger homes can be closer to 3,000 square feet or more, which obviously takes longer.

You might wonder why a Victorian, Tudor, or a Queen Anne can take more time. They’re bigger with more roof to cover, but they also tend to have unique designs. Roofs with a lot of external parts or dips can take more work than normal residential homes.

That’s part of why we always recommend a pro for your roof replacement. Our team knows what we’re doing, but we also have professional gear for any kind of situation. We apply our expertise and access whether it’s a large home or a normal residential house.

Underneath your materials, the underlayment is meant to add protection from leaks. It’s important to enhance your home’s structural integrity. We might also have an extra step if your home is considered historic.

Local and state governments can deem certain homes historic landmarks. In that case, we might need to wait for a special permit. Your historic home might also need special materials, which will take time to obtain in most cases.

What’s the Delay for?

Many things in life can get delayed for a number of reasons. We’ve mentioned the reasons that your roof replacement might take longer. These are the incidents that can add time to your project.

When you call about your free inspection, Albert Adamkoski Roofing will send a qualified inspector. We’ll check through your home and give you a fair estimate. However, we’re only human. We can’t see what’s under the roof, so the roof deck can be telling.

If you didn’t know, your roof is held up by wooden beams. That’s the roof deck, and any damages will need to be fixed before we lay anything on it. We’ll work quickly to repair or replace your roof deck, so that we can give you the roof replacement you’ll love.

Insurance is known for delaying a roof replacement. You have to keep track of paperwork, documentation, photographs, and many other things. We’ve worked with a lot of insurance companies, so we know how to get you the most for your homeowner’s insurance.

We’ll also try to get the insurance to approve your claim faster. Albert Amakoski Roofing know how expensive a roof replacement can be. That’s why we’ll fight to get everything but the deductible covered, but it’s certainly not the only delay.

Bad weather can come in many forms. Hail, rain, lightning, and many other things can destroy an existing roof. They can also take a toll on your new roof, or our personnel. For safety reasons, we’ll hold off on your roof replacement until the weather has run its course.

Not only could our people be in trouble, but rain can flood your home if the roof is missing. Either way, these things could add at least a day to the earlier numbers.

Critical Timing

We’ll do everything we can to stay on schedule, but things happen. Sometimes, a storm can roll through without notice. Whatever the case, you can make moves to prevent delays, too. The more you do beforehand, the better your roof replacement can be.

If you’re a new homeowner or it’s been a while since you called, between Spring’s end and Fall’s beginning is when we do the most roof replacements. However, that’s not the only time. You can get started with an inspection or the full thing in Winter.

Since we usually have fewer projects in that time, we might be able to start sooner and finish faster. If nothing else, by getting your inspection done then, you’ll be ready first-thing the last week of Spring.

Another thing you can do is pick the right people for the job. If you’re looking at Albert Adamkoski Roofing, you’re already following this step. We’ll take care of your roof replacement and install everything securely, so you don’t have to worry!

Our team of experts knows how stressful the whole process can be. That’s why we’ll recommend lasting products from the top manufacturers. You’ll have a lot of choices to make, so our team will stay with you through the whole project.

Knowing that the roof replacement is safe can offer peace of mind. No one wants to sit under their roof, wondering if it will collapse. Of course, the damages might not be that bad. Your roof might just need to be reshingled, if the roofing materials are all that’s wrong.

We Might Suggest Reshingling

Since asphalt shingles are installed on most residential homes, it makes sense that we’ve done a lot of reshingling. The process can be less expensive than a complete roof replacement. Part of that’s because of how affordable asphalt shingles are.

After enough time, though, the shingles can crack or fall apart. Maybe yours just faded. Whatever the reason, reshingling can replace any singles that have gone awry. By getting a reshingling, you can also protect your home from the elements.

Asphalt isn’t the only type of shingle for your roof replacement. Between that, and the chance to upgrade during a reshingling, you could get more from your shingles. Some types take longer than others. Keep in mind that these times are with a traditional 1,200 square-foot home:

Asphalt shingles: 1-2 days

Slate shingles or tiles: 6-7 days

Concrete shingles or tiles: 8-9 days

Wood shingles: 3-4 days

Why Can Reshingling Get Delayed?

The largest home that can still fall in the times above is 1,600 square feet. After that, the number can change. However, the days can get delayed as well, just like with the roof replacement. Which shingle you go with can change the time, for example.

You’ll also have to decide on underlayment, where special sheathing takes longer. What direction your asphalt shingles lay on your roof could have an impact on a time frame. That direction can also affect how protective your materials are to different weather, too.

Bad weather can still happen with a reshingling. The good news is that a reshingling might only take 4 days or less by our team. The fays can go up significantly with a larger home. The same rules also apply for weather from earlier, where safety is always a concern.

Roof Replacement You Can Trust

We’ve got a lot of experience with roof replacements and reshingling at Albert Adamkoski Roofing. When you hire us, you’re getting that and our knowledge on the subject. Between the two, you’re in the best hands for your new roof.

Through all of our years on the roof, we know what brands care about quality. Some materials last longer than others, but some manufacturers give better warranties. Without us, you might accept a 5-year warranty and think it’s great.

Asphalt shingles typically last around 40 years, with the right maintenance. 5 years is nothing for that, so we’ll help you find a product warranty closer to 30 years. Of course, we’ll also help you find the best products in the first place.

The overall takeaway from this is that roof replacement can vary on the time frame. You might have a new roof or reshingling done in 1 or 2 days. It could also take a week or more. It just depends on the factors mentioned above. No matter what, you can trust us with your needs!

Was concerned about my roof after finding a few shingles had blown out because of the wind. I contacted Adam and he quickly had the shingles repaired and inspected my roof and nailed down everything that was loose. For the same amount he quoted me he cleaned out my gutter and fixed and sealed everything that didn’t look right. I highly recommend this gentleman as he will remain my roofer.
