We Know Commercial Roofing in Fultonville, NY

Mankind has always had the need for shelter, but it wasn’t until the 1960’s that we found the best roofing material available. It was then that a Nobel Prize experiment would discover EPDM, a monomer that has risen to the top of all commercial roofing materials in quality and cost.

The Origins of EPDM

The most advanced material prior to EPDM was Neoprene, something you’ll commonly find in wetsuits of the modern era. Knowing that, it may be obvious how much Neoprene wasn’t made to be a stable protection for the roofs of commercial buildings.

Because of the need for a stronger and longer-lasting material, scientists conducted experiments on polymerisation that would eventually win a Nobel Prize. However, it also found the monomer that would become EPDM in the 1960’s.

Neoprene may be good against tears and normal wear, but one thing that wetsuits don’t need to be is strong against sunlight and that was the major deficiency as a roofing material. Even without the advancements made with EPDM since its discovery, it was a better alternative.

Still, once the potential for EPDM was realized there was an urgency for making it stronger and that dream became a reality a decade later. As a single-ply material, EPDM is able to cover roofs in a single layer so it was imperative to find a way to connect those large cuts.

In the 70’s adhesive was ironically made with Neoprene, the very material that EPDM replaced. The seams of EPDM were connected with that adhesive, but as you may have guessed the UV rays had the same effect on Neoprene as before and the adhesive tended to fail.

Another decade passed, though, and Butyl took the place of Neoprene in the adhesive. It could take the punishment of long-term exposure to UV and weather better, but there was one factor that wasn’t accounted for: Human beings.

The adhesive was being cut into different dimensions and being placed wrong on many installations, so once double-sided tape came around the engineers behind EPDM had an idea. The material’s improvement from there was…seamless.

How is EPDM the Best Choice for Commercial Roofing in Fultonville, NY?

If you’re looking for cost-effective, high-quality material for your commercial building, you’ve found it. The low cost of EPDM gives it a huge advantage, because that directly relates to future replacement or repair costs being lower than other materials.

With that being said, EPDM has an average lifespan of 30 years but can last even longer with routine annual maintenance. Not only that, but on top of adhesive seams in the 80’s, a reinforcement was created to help it resist tearing and puncturing from frequent use.

The chemical terms that EPDM stands for don’t sound much like a roofing material, but it’s essentially a layer of thick rubber. That means it’s flexible enough to fit many flat surfaces, extending to residential use as well as commercial.

EPDM can also save you money on electricity usage, because of how it functions on a roof. Being a darker material, it can withstand sunlight’s aging effects while absorbing the heat. If you live in a cooler climate, this means it can help to keep your building warm.

However, that doesn’t sound good if you live in a hot area so EPDM is also manufactured in lighter colors like white. This allows it to reflect that same sunlight and have the opposite temperature effect on your structure.

Albert Adamkoski Roofing

Albert is an incredibly honest and forthright roofer. I received estimates from 2 other more well know local roofers. Not only was Albert’s bid lower, it was incredibly comprehensive and I never felt anything was being hidden. He let me know exactly what materials would cost as well as how much he would make and backed that up with receipts for everything when the job was complete. He is a pro at working with insurance companies as well. I am not being paid or compensated in any way to give this review and I never knew Albert before we met to get an estimate. I would recommend him without reservation.
